My series above addresses the often-avoided topic of major depression. The photos are a translation of the common symptoms and feelings that manifest in someone who is clinically depressed. There are misconceptions from those who do not experience major depression regarding its effects on the physical and emotional conditions. When major depression dwells in someone, they struggle with it everyday. Those with misconceptions may believe major depression is only sadness but it is much more than that.

I use a range of images in the series to represent the extent of major depression in itself. The images are in black and white so that the focus is on what I want the photo to be about and not anything potentially distracting in the background. The photos give everyone a new perspective or point of view on what it is actually like. I want the viewer to be able to put themselves in her position so they can get a better understanding of what major depression entails.

The House

The series above represents an emotion or feeling of being trapped. The red symbolizing the fearful presence preventing her from leaving. Her face only showing in the image of her trying to leave while the other images leave her as a faceless depleted body. This series brings up the challenges of anxiety and fear.

"The Paint Shop"

The photos above are apart of a documentary series. Capturing the everyday motions of an RV paint shop in Indiana. Bringing beauty to places not seen.

The Sapphire Sun

I did the set of photos above for my friend V who owns The Sapphire Sun. The Sapphire Sun is a single black woman owned shop where each item is completely made by hand. She specializes in designing, creating, and selling jewelry and accessories for the ethereal at heart. She focuses on high quality items using natural gemstones and glass. It was such a pleasure to photograph her winter Fairy Wing collection.
